Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Year One is taught by Mrs O’Connor and supported by Mrs Howden.

As children move into Key Stage One, we value the importance of transition to ensure children continue to enter school happily and all are eager to learn every day.

In Year One we deliver ‘continuous provision’ for the first part of the autumn term. This helps children to move from the early learning goals to national curriculum expectations through exploration, problem solving and play. Learning in this way encourages children to follow their interests whilst remaining confident and enthused as they become familiar with their new learning environment.

Our Year One curriculum is exciting and fun; themes and topics throughout the year inspire children to learn about the world in which we live, appreciate a wide variety of stories; develop key skills and apply these when solving problems.

We warmly welcome families to support their child’s learning at home and use Class Dojo to share videos, photos and set challenges for children to complete at home.

We also value the importance of Class Dojo as a means of communication between home and school, building a strong, open and supportive relationship between families and staff.

Class Dojo

Dear Parents and Carers,

Home Learning Update – ClassDojo for Year 1 - 6

We are very pleased to announce that we will now be using ClassDojo to send home learning electronically and to enable you to contact your child’s class teacher directly through the messaging function.

This applies to Years 1 to 6; Nursery and Reception will continue to use Tapestry to keep in touch with families.

You will receive an email inviting you to join ClassDojo as a parent – please follow the simple instructions within the message to set up your parent account. Once you have created an account, you can either access ClassDojo online or you can download the free app. By setting up a parent account, you are giving us consent to contact you through ClassDojo. You will be able to send a message to your child’s class teacher through ClassDojo about your child’s learning, ask the teacher questions and share what your children have been learning at home. Teachers will reply as soon as possible during core school hours from 8.45am – 3.15pm – any messages sent outside of these hours will be responded to the next time teachers are available.

Teachers will also use ClassDojo to keep you updated with home learning ideas, to acknowledge your children’s work and keep in touch with you.

Please ensure that we have your most up to date email address on our system – we will be using the one we have on record for you for our weekly newsletter. If your email address has changed please inform us by calling 01684 574984 or emailing Mrs Beale

Thank you
