For the fourth year running we have maintained our School Council link with Cottage Grove Primary School in Portsmouth. Each year the School Council from both schools get the chance to visit the other school. This year St. Matthias made the first visit. We arrived at school very early on the Thursday with our bags packed and our sleeping bags ready. We set off shortly after 8.15am and arrived at Cottage Grove in time for lunch. We spent the afternoon getting to know the School Council from Cottage Grove and shared in their lessons. It was an exciting day at Cottage Grove as they were celebrating their World Day. Each class had been finding out about a different country and they were putting up a display in the hall of everything they had been learning to share with their parents.
After school we went for a walk to see the sea and watch the hovercraft leaving for the Isle of Wight. Then it was back to school for tea, a video and bed!
On the second day Cottage Grove were taking part in the BBC World Music Day. All Cottage Grove children had been learning a body percussion piece. First, we joined in with their practice session at the university of Portsmouth. Then we watched as they were joined by children from other local schools to perform their piece in front of the Guild Hall.
After lunch it was time to go home. Our School Council now have to get busy planning the return trip.
