Year R Class Assembly

Tuesday 11th July

Well done to all of Year R who made our class assembly such a memorable one.  We had a new teacher, Miss Morgan, who started the assembly with a register and the children demonstrated their foreign language skills by replying in French, German, Japanese and Welsh.  We then read our tricky words and showed off some of our writing before Miss Morgan showed some pictures of what we do outside.

We then had great fun singing our 3D shape song and then telling everybody all about 3D shapes. Everyone loved showing their paintings of their favourite things in Year R before the assembly finished with a story session where the whole class were amazing at telling the story of the Little Red Hen.

Thank you to all of the adults who came to watch and support their child and especially well done to all of the children in Year R! You truly are superstars smiley

Foundation Stage have had an amazing day with our families at All Things Wild, Honeybourne.

We have been learning all about the World and different countries and to help us with our learning we thought that it would be great to see lots of different animals.

We loved going on the dinosaur trail and made sure that we kept away from the ones with sharp teeth!! The helicopter was amazing and Tiffany flew us all to London to get some sweets and see the Queen.

We saw lots of amazing animals that come from different countries and we loved learning all about the Boa Constrictor.

To end our amazing day the children had lots of fun using the indoor play area and the indoor classroom that has been turned into a beach.

Shape Problem Solving

We have been working really hard developing our problem solving skills this term.  This week we have had the challenge of trying to fit all of our boxes onto an A3 piece of paper.  We weren't allowed to put the boxes on top of each other and the boxes weren't allowed to go over the edges of the paper.  We were also trying to hide as much of the paper as possible.  Have a look at the pictures to see some of the solutions that we came up with.

Look at Our Writing

We are very proud of all of our children in Reception Class and how hard they are working with their writing.  We really enjoy writing sentences in the morning and have remembered our 4 key steps to a great sentence;

1. Remember to start with a capital letter

2. We must have a full stop at the end of a sentence

3. Have a finger space between each word

4. It must make sense!!!

Have a look at some of our amazing sentences.

Growing Our Own Beanstalks

We have been learning all about Spring with Mrs Edmonds and Jack and the Beanstalk with Mr Salmon.  We thought that it would be a great idea to plant our own beans and look after them in the classroom.  We make sure that they are watered every day and that they get enough sunlight for their energy to grow.  We are amazed at how quickly they are growing.  Poppy's is currently the tallest!!!  Soon we will be taking them home to plant in our gardens.

Saint Patrick's Day

We have had lots of fun learning all about the Patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.  It was interesting to find out how he became Ireland's Patron Saint and how the day is celebrated all over the World.

Class Trip to Queenswood Country Park

Wednesday 15th February

We have had an amazing day following the Gruffalo trail at Queenswood.  We found the snake, mouse, fox, owl and Gruffalo in the woods and had lots of fun exploring.  There were lots of deep, dark parts that we had to be really brave to explore.

After lunch we went on the play park and all had lots of fun climbing and playing.  It must have been an exciting and busy day because 12 children fell asleep on the way home!!!

Physical Development

Our children are making excellent progress with their physical development and have loved using the school hall apparatus.  We all talked about how to keep safe when using the climbing frame and how it doesn't matter how high we climb compared to others but how we challenge and better ourselves.  We loved climbing, jumping and balancing and demonstrated excellent self-care in keeping ourselves safe.

Librarian Visit

Tuesday 7th February

We have had a very exciting afternoon in Reception Class.  Amanda, from Malvern Library, came to our class with a lovely collection of books and we all loved listening to lots of new stories.  We all want to join the library service now so that we can borrow lots of lovely books to read at home.  Every child has also got their own book bag to bring home with a new book to keep.  How exciting!!

Japan

Tuesday 22nd November

Picture 1

We have had an amazing day learning all about Japan.  Mrs Davies visited Japan during the October half-term and has inspired us to learn all about Japan and the Japanese culture.  To help bring this day to life we had a special visitor, Izumi, who came to the classroom, answered our questions and taught us how to count to 10.  Did you know that Japanese children walk to school alone and that they need to take their shoes off at school?

We collaged Japanese flags, created our own Cherry Blossom trees using an empty cola bottle and learnt how to write our names in Japanese.  We all loved the day and would like to thank Izumi for visiting us.

Lantern Making

Friday 18th November

We had a lovely morning making lanterns with our family.  We have made the lanterns so that we can join in with the Malvern Light switch on.  It was great to see the children taking great pride in working with their family.  Thank you all for your support smiley

Remembrance Day

Friday 11th November 2016

We have been spending the day learning why we wear poppies on Remembrance Day and all about the people who went to war to make us safe.

We have painted poppy fields and thought about how the soldiers and their families would have felt.

We watched the following video to see how poppies are made and where the money raised is spent and had a 2 minute silence at 11am followed by The Last Post.

We Will Remember

The Poppy Story (Early Years)

An animated short film about the journey of the poppy and what it means. Written specifically for very young children this is an excellent introduction to the poppy and remembrance.

This week we have been learning all about the Festival of Light, Diwali.  It has been very interesting to see how different faiths celebrate their festivals and how they are similar to Christian events such as Christmas.
