Class Visit to Malvern Fire Station

Monday 27th June 2016

This week we are learning all about the fire service and how fire fighters keep us safe.  We have started the week off by walking up to Malvern Fire Station and meeting the fire fighters.  We had a tour of the fire station and learnt all about the different vehicles, e.g. the main fire engine, the command support unit and the vehicles that are used to get up the Malvern Hills.  We all then had a go using the hose and loved aiming at the cones.  We had a great time and loved learning all about the fire service and how they help to keep us safe.

Thursday 23rd June 2016

This week we have been learning all about the police and how they help us.  We have had lots of fun making our own police ID and creating 3D police cars in the creative area. Today, we had a special visitor who came in and spoke to Year R about his job and the different things that Police Officers do to help us.  We learnt that they help to find lost children, talk to people if they are sad and make sure people aren't doing naughty things.  We also learnt all about 'Stranger Danger' and how important it is not to talk to strangers.

It was really exciting to meet a real life hero and we were all thrilled when he drove onto the playground in his pick-up.  We all got to sit in the car and pretend that we were driving it!!!

The lights all flashed and he even put his siren on.  We had a lovey day, thank you to the police for helping us with this learning experience.

Rhyme Rocket Visit

Monday 23rd May

What an amazing morning we have had!  Professor Poet and First Officer Ditty surprised the children with a special visit and performance.  We loved creating rhymes with them to help fuel their space rocket as well as singing lots of funny rhyming songs as Professor Poet played his guitar.

The pictures give you a small glimpse into the fun that we had...ask your child what their favourite bit was and see whether they can remember any of the rhymes and songs that we learnt.

Family Trip to Worcester Woods Country Park

Tuesday 17th May

We had a lovely day in the sun at Worcester Woods Country Park.  The children loved doing their Woodland hunt and exploring the woods and meadows.  It was lovely to see how all of the children loved being outside with their friends.

Beacon Dental Care Class Visit

This afternoon (Tuesday 3rd May) we had some very special visitors.  They came from Beacon Dental Care and helped us to learn all about the importance of keeping our teeth clean and dental hygiene.  They loved seeing our Dental Surgery role play area and were very impressed with what the children already knew.  Remember to brush your teeth twice a day and stay away from those sugary drinks!

Science Investigation

Science Investigation 1
We are learning all about keeping our teeth healthy and are doing an experiment to find out what drinks are bad and good for us.  We have left eggs in the different drinks to see whether they rot like teeth.  Keep checking here to see what our results show us...

Friday 18th March

On Friday 18th March we will be raising money for Sport Relief.  It would be amazing if all the children could remember to come into school with something red on or wearing their favourite sporting outfit.

We have also had a visit from 'Baggie Bird', who is the West Bromwich Albion Football Club mascot. St Matthias have been given the challenge of raising as much sponsorship money as possible in order to take penalties against Baggie Bird on Sport Relief Day.

The more money your child raises the more prizes they will receive.  Please check their sponsorship form for details.

KS1 Sports Roadshow

Thursday 10th March

Today we had some special visitors from Albion Foundation, who delivered a very exciting PE lesson to Reception Class.  We all had 6 stations to visit in the sports hall and had to perform a task at each one.

We had to throw a ball against the wall and catch it, play a football passing game, jump as high as we could, do a sprinting race, hop through hoops and see how far we could stretch!

We were all very tired after this but thoroughly enjoyed testing ourselves.

Our Favourite Story Book

We were lucky enough to be given some new story books to read in Reception Class and loved them all!!

We have been learning all about British Values and understand that we live in a democracy and that everyone's opinion matters.  We decided that the best way to choose our favourite story book was to vote for it by putting a counter on our favourite.  It was very exciting to find out what we thought as a class.  See the picture below to see what our vote showed...

On Wednesday we invited our family members in for a stay and play morning.  We all had great fun making 'things that move' in the hall.  I think that the 2 most popular activities were the balloon monsters and the vehicles smiley

Thank you for making the morning one that your children loved and for your continued support.

On Tuesday we had a lovely trip to Pizza Express in Worcester.  We had to get to school bright and early so that we were there in time and we all had a great time seeing the sights from the coach.

It was amazing to see how enthused everyone was and every child tasted lots of ingredients, with olives being very unpopular!   We all then made our own margherita pizza to take home to eat with our family.
