Our purpose-built nursery with its experienced, caring staff team and well resourced outdoor learning area, welcomes our youngest learners throughout the school day and hosts both a morning group and an afternoon group.
8.45am – 11.45am St Matthias Nursery Class (Mornings)
Our Nursery class offers 15 hours of early education designed for children in their year prior to joining a Reception class. (The children in this year's nursery class had their third birthday before 1st September 2016 and will enter a school reception class in September 2017).
12.30 - 3.30pm St Matthias Pre-School Explorers (Afternoons)
These sessions are designed to meet the needs of our youngest learners, those children who have just become three or who are soon to have their third birthday and is also available to children from our morning class so they can spend full days in nursery.
Charges for additional hours
All children are entitled to 15 hours per week of free childcare from the start of the term after they have turned three.
For those who would like their child to join our Pre-School Explorers Group as soon as they are three, or even at the start of the term in which they become three, you may still be entitled to 15 hours of free child care each week depending on family income. However, if you are not eligible for this your child will still be able to take part at a charge of £13.50 per session (£4.50 per hour) during that first term.
Children attending our morning nursery class are welcome to stay over the nursery lunchtime period from 11.45 until 12.30 at a cost of £4.00 per lunchtime. They have the option to bring a packed lunch or to order a hot school meal at a cost of £2.30.
Additional afternoon sessions, booked in advance, are available to children from the morning nursery class at a cost of £13.50 per session.
Outside these times, it is possible to arrange child care in our school's "Whizz Kids" club which opens at 7.45am and runs after school until 6pm (5.30pm on Fridays).
When places are available, and parents and staff agree that it would be appropriate, it may be possible for younger children, (those not entering a reception class until 2018) to attend full days at the same rates as above.
If you would like to find out more about whether our provision would be beneficial for your child, please have a look at our leaflets below . Our Nursery class page (on the "Pupils" tab) is frequently updated with photos and information about our learning activities and we are always pleased to welcome families considering a place to see our Nursery class and Explorers group in action. Please speak to a member of our office staff to arrange a visit.
